Little Bit About T.Thuvarakan
Thuvarakan Tharumarajah, popularly known as T.Thuvarakan, born on the 24th of May in 1995 is Jaffna Sri Lanka’s most famous young musician and is currently on his big journey to reach his ambition of becoming a Music Director. He lives in and grew up in Jaffna Sri Lanka through three civil wars and all his musical developments were achieved by him in a nondescript room in his house. Side by side, as well as concentrating on music to reach this ambition of his, T.Thuvarakan is currently studying Management at the University of Jaffna and is due to graduate in 2019. Today in Jaffna he is the director of ‘Vaanavil Music Band Jaffna’. His interest in music developed at the age of 5 with the inspiration of his father who was a singer at that time.
Today at the age of 22, T.Thuvarakan has developed his musical skills to such a professional level and knows how to play 11 instruments; Keyboard, Miruthangam, Tabla, Octapad, Gatam, Ganjeera, Morsing, Thavil, Guitar, Drums and Udukai. Additionally to this, he is learning to play the Violin and Flute. Having learnt Miruthangam for 16 years, T.Thuvarakan performed his Arangetram in February 2016. Not only has he finished teaching grade in Miruthangam but due to his excellence in music, T.Thuvarakan was awarded the ‘Kalavithagar’ award in 2016. Earlier this year in 2017, T.Thuvarakan was also awarded the ‘Kalaimaamany’ Award, an award which is mostly awarded to elder achievers.
